Something will get in the way…

Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice here.

If you read all of the self-improvement gurus like I do- you know that a day like the Solstice is great for a fresh start. Think Katy Milkman’s book “How to Change” or Daniel Pink’s “When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing”

Tomes like this will tell you, self-improvement friend, that a fresh start can be conceived of in a different way than just New Year’s Day. Or your birthday.

In Pink’s book, he lists multiple ways of interpreting the fresh start. The beginning of the week. The beginning of the month. Your birthday, your anniversary, coming back from a holiday… you name it. Even the Winter Solstice.

In Milkman’s book, the idea of a fresh start can be paired with time, major life events or even moving locations.

These ideas all make sense. Sometimes we need a kick start. A change in our perception of a day as not just another day, but THE day to make change can help inspire.

Sometimes we need a kick start. But something will get in the way.

As an educator, things get in the way ALL. THE. TIME.

Meetings, phone calls, colleagues, students, grading, planning, meetings, school events, life, meetings, students, meetings…
