“When I look up in the universe, I know I’m small but I also know I’m big. I’m big because I’m connected to the universe and the universe is connected to me.” -Neil DeGrasse Tyson
We spend a lot of time at school connected. We are connected to the internet, connected to our peers in the classroom, connected to other professionals, and connected to the day-to-day workings of our building.
These connections stay throughout the day and permeate into our home lives. Whether we are with our families or not, we can stay connected.
Messaging, whether through email or text, allows us to fire off our thoughts and plant something in someone else’s mind.
Our connections to media allow us to watch or consume things that we like. No matter what, no matter the time of the day, or the pressing needs of anything around us, we can connect with something.
Have your every tried to connect with yourself? Slow down the urge to move to the next thing- the next thing to watch, the next podcast, the next thing to plan.
Take a moment and allow yourself to just — be.
Instead of eating lunch while working, actually chew your food.
Instead of checking your phone and sneaking a look at the computer, actually listen to your students or colleagues.
Find a moment to disconnect and you will see that feeling pervade other parts of your day and allow you to be present, even if just for a moment.
