Lessons from the beach: make your home

Imagine sleeping under the sand.

There’s advantages, you know. It’s cool, you avoid the midday heat and you probably stay pretty cozy.

But, it’s tight- not for the claustrophobic.

Where is your life right now?

Are you in a place where you feel confined? Hopefully, it’s not physically- but it could be mentally or psychologically.

At some times in my life, I have yearned for a different place than I am. Travel allows me to live in different places and make my home someplace else for awhile.

When you walk into a DisneyWorld hotel, you might see a sign that says “Welcome Home.” There’s clearly a reason for that: DisneyWorld makes you feel happy and like you are at home.

We can make other places our home, even if it doesn’t seem like it.

When have you lived in a “place” and become comfortable?

Maybe it’s living above or below your means. Maybe it’s dealing with a relationship that you didn’t like originally, or a job you took because it made sense. You are there now, and maybe you don’t want to be.

We can make our home anywhere.

Where do you want to live?

Do you want to be cramped and feeling claustrophobic?

Do you want to be on top of the mountain and flying free?

I am not trying to offer you some solution- I’m certainly not looking to sell you something, but I will say this: wherever you are, be there.

Welcome the blessings that life brings you as well as the challenges.

Be wary of where you make your home, because it might feel cool and comfortable or it might feel cramped and claustrophobic.

Lastly, travel and live outside the zones where you feel comfortable. Just like the hermit crab that needs to find a new shell, we can grow and need to find new places to be ourselves.
