“The point is not to wish for these adversities, but for the virtue that makes adversities bearable” -Seneca
In the post-COVID world, I have found myself becoming an afficionado of memes. While the debate about how my time is spent is a real and daily battle is besides the point. Memes celebrating how “an email finds you” give me a regular dose of both humor and humility.
I hope this email finds you well.
This email finds me between planning and paperwork. Between wishing for the weekend or wanting to stay a little longer to finish a project at school. Between wondering why I got into education and celebrating learning for all of my students.
I hope this email finds you well.
Troubles will come in your life.
Some will be personal, some will be related to work. Some troubles will be about your health, or the health of a loved one (whether human or pet).
Seneca’s quote encapsulates the idea perfectly. We do not wish for trouble, but we know it is coming. There might be one problem or a lot. Regardless, we should be both ready for trouble and at peace with it. Resistance only makes it harder.
So, how does this email find you? Whether stressed or laughing, I hope you remember to breathe and be prepared for whatever comes your way.
